* The Cardiac Intensive Care was a 12 bed unit where all beds were capable of (i) ventilation and (ii) intra cardiac balloon pumping. In general, 4-6 patients were ventilated at any one time. It was used not only for arrythmias and IHD - ACS/cardiogenic shock, but also for acute rheumatic carditis with shock, heart failure in pregnancy with congenital/valvular disease, severe heart failure in preparation for transplantation "Non-life-threatening" ACS were treated in High Dependency Units attached to each medical ward, a total of 48 such beds - fully monitored with daily cardiology consultation. |
